We’ve got a match report from The Lovejoy…
AI Digital’s crack footie team, hastily pulled together at the final hour, almost triumphed in a battle of wills at the hallowed Portslade Community Centre last night.
Despite the odds being stacked against them (no sub, no practice, no hope) they put on a marvelous show of 1966 style spirit and skill to reach the final of the closely contested Nido Marketing Football Competition (I don’t think it is called this but hey). The team, despite having not ever played together before were on top form, and clearly spooked the opposition.
How we laughed when a team of local SEOs lost in their quarter final (despite their girly hugging and fancy yellow kit- pah), how we rejoiced when we thrashed the team that beat them. AI Digital were also victorious against Nido (2- nil, back of the net)
The semi final saw veteran polished team Carden’s (actually only one of them worked for Cardens, hmmm ) humiliated at the hands of Phil ‘Lightning Bolt’ Bartholomews cultured right foot, ably backed up by John McMarvellous McElborough, a mere blur on the wing.
Finally we were up against Door 22, thrice times winners, we held on until the pain was too much, and limbs were quite literally falling off.
However such was our verve that spectators turned their attention from some crappy game on the tellybox- Arsenal v Spurs what? To cheer on Ai’s Digital Dynamos.
Steve ‘the cat’ McQuillan saved a trio of shots but AI succumbed 2-0 in a closely fought battle. The two Phil’s both attempted shots at goal but were denied justice. Phil ‘dancing’ Ashford was heard to comment ‘f88k it’ rather loudly.
Alan ‘taller than alan ball’ Cairns deftly swerved around the defence but alas, to no avail. As the Gunners drew with Spurs so AI were defeated by a few lucky goals.
Next year boys!
