Alex Gaiger Joins us through the Sussex Internship Programme
We’ve recently been joined by Alex Gaiger as an intern and we thought what better place to introduce her than here on the blog.
The Sussex Internship Programme is organised by the team at Wired Sussex, with the support of the University of Sussex, in order to enable new graduates in Sussex to gain valuable work experience and support digital media companies, in Sussex. It is a government backed scheme, with a grant provided to cover each intern’s expenses. This year 40 interns were placed in 40 companies in Sussex, with roles ranging from film editing, to web design, to programming, to marketing and PR.

I won’t go off and rant about my views on top-up fees and graduating into this economic climate (I promise!) but it is brilliant to see that there is support out there for graduates to gain what employers are demanding: EXPERIENCE! Needless to say I jumped at the opportunity, along with around 500 others apparently.
Through this scheme I was lucky enough to find SiteVisibility and will be spending 28 days working with them as Sales and Marketing Coordinator. I have worked in a telesales environment and done some online PR so this is an opportunity for me to consolidate that experience and learn more. Jason has undertaken the task of being my ‘buddy’ and mentoring me whilst I am here. Good luck Jason!
So far I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here; I have been so busy that I am writing my blog about starting the scheme three weeks in! Everyone is friendly and willing to help me out when I am not sure how things work and I am being encouraged to undertake new challenges. For example I will be writing up new case studies, to break up the mundane but unfortunately necessary task of data entry! I have also been given the job of project managing SiteVisibility’s attendance at the DPA Annual Conference. This is my first encounter with formal project management so I don’t quite know how it is going to turn out. To see how I managed come along to the event next Thursday and check if the stand is there or I told our speaker the correct day! Hopefully I’ll see you there, at our stand (fingers crossed!).
