Six ways Google try to stop you to going to the second page of the results

Posted by in Search Marketing (SEO) on May 14th, 2009 3 Comments

But after a recent visit to some of the deeper page’s search results, I was surprised at some of the lengths Google seem to be going to in order to avoid you clicking on the ‘next page’ link. Read on

Zac Featured Over at AdBusters

Posted by in Search Marketing (SEO) on April 29th, 2009 0 Comments

One of our number, Zac, has impressively been featured over at AdBusters, in reaction to Adbusters’ digital detox week – seven days to switch off your mobile, unplug your PC and generally disengage with any media technologies. He’s writen a sensationalist piece of scare mongering, called the Era of Simulation. Well worth checking out. A bit of Baudrillard in the morning never did anyone any harm.

70% of StumbleUpon Traffic Comes After the Peak

Posted by in Search Marketing (SEO) on April 29th, 2009 2 Comments

It’s a month since the launch of one of the most successful posts we’ve created on Apple Pie & Custard, and it seemed only right to do a bit of a post-mortem. And the results were surprising…

The Google StreetView Images They Didn’t Want You To See was one of those blog posts you can only really come up with on a Friday afternoon in an office full of geeks. Sick of the emails, tweets and blog posts about anything remotely out of the ordinary on StreetView, we tried to super-impose some genuinely surprising sights.

But what was out of line with our expectations was how much of the traffic came after the peak. The good news is, unlike a client success, we can share the details with you here. Read on

It’s been a long week in the SEO industry in the UK. Many of you will have heard that GoCompare had been seriously penalised in Google, to the extent they weren’t ranking on their own username.

And if this was anything like their previous run-in with Google, it was serious news for their business. Robin Goad from Hitwise reported they were losing as much as 87% of their traffic as a result of the penalty.

Anyone monitoring the situation over the last week will have realised it became difficult to keep track of the various opinions, allegations and speculation about the cause of the problem.

What follows is a timeline of their problems and a series of lessons the industry can learn from this debacle. Read on
