In this screencast, Kelvin is talking about what to consider when designing a local search strategy. If you want to make the most of local search, it’s important to distinguish between the two different local search opportunities. The first is geographically modified keywords traditional results. e.g. the text results for a query like “Brighton estate agents”. The second is Google Maps results which are triggered by the same search query. As there are two different algorithms at play you will need to take two slightly different approaches.

I’ve been watching the hype build around Pinterest over the last couple of months with interest (excuse the pun). I imagine you’ve already come across it. You may have already have signed up for the service.
I never like to assume, but if I had to, I’d imagine it was because you read something claiming it was the ‘next big thing’ rather than someone using the service and singing its praises. That’s the way I came across the service, there’s been a tidal wave of marketing blogs explaining to you how you can integrate it into your marketing strategy. Even we’re guilty at SiteVisibility, including it as P in our ongoing A-Z of SEO.
In this article I’m not going to predict the success or failure of the site. I’ve not got a good track record in that area. For example I once predicted Pownce was going to be bigger than Twitter. I bet you’d forgotten about Pownce hadn’t you? Instead I’m going to talk a bit about why the ‘social media marketing industry’ (which I’m a consenting member of) wants there to be a constant stream of ‘next big things’ even if nothing ultimately comes of them.

However you look at that it’s a huge number and it’s taken about 160 episodes and five and a half years to get there and it’s hugely gratifying. But before I put my feet up and open a nice cold beer I thought this might be a great opportunity to share what I think are the five best episodes.

I still can’t believe we got two New York Times Best-Selling authors in one show but we did! Tim Ferriss, for those of you who have not come across him before, is a productivity and lifestyle guru. It’s probably fair to say that he has had a life changing impact on many marketers. I don’t think many of you won’t have heard of Seth Godin, the prolific marketing author has written dozens of amazing marketing books; ones like Tribes are so good they’ve informed one of SiteVisibility’s fundamental business processes.
Put simply, Avinash is the most respected thinker in the world of Analytics, and in this podcast he challenges a few sacred cows, shares some serious knowledge and infects you with some of his huge passion. If you’ve not yet been biten by the Analytics bug this episode will be the one to do it.

This is a recent episode but one that covers the fundamentals of the most popular social networking site on the planet. It’s amazed me how popular it’s become. Sometimes the podcasts can get a little detailed and involved. It’s nice to take a step back and do an introduction to a service, especially when it’s proved so useful.
